Janel & Jay had a beautiful Wild Basin Lodge spring wedding

The sun was shinning bright and the rays beating down on my skin felt absolutely wonderful. I love the first wedding of the spring season! I have usually had a lot of the winter to focus on education and getting my business organized for the upcoming year and once weddings start then the real fun begins! I was really looking forward to Janel and Jay’s wedding – I had only spoke to them over the phone, but could tell it was going to be amazing! Janel was so sweet and kind to me leading up to the big day and when I arrived the smile beaming from her face radiated with pure joy! I instantly felt welcomed by her and her family. There is something truly special about spending such a happy day with people – you get to know them on a level right away that you most likely wouldn’t have other wise.

Janel and Jay celebrated their wedding day at the wonderful Wild Basin Lodge! The lodge is located on HWY 7 between Lyons and Estes Park. It is surrounded by breathtaking views and run by the most amazing people, EVER! They are truly genuine and run their venue with integrity and kindness!

Janel and some of her family got ready in the honeymoon suite at the lodge. It is a gorgeous room with stunning views!

I love the colors that they chose! The teal/mint with accents of pink and orange just shout spring time!

I LOVE the Bible that they had their rings tied to… When I asked Janel where it came from she responded – “The little Bible that the ring bearer carried was actually in a box of my great grandpa Coopers belongings. After my grandma passed away we were all really nostalgic looking through boxes and old pictures. When I came across it I knew it had to be a part of our day. My grandpa gave it to me and giggled a little when I told him my initial plans for it. I was also happy to find it knowing by its lovingly worn pages that there may be a legacy of faith there too that I never knew before.”

These colors are simply amazing!!! When I asked where the inspiration came from Janel said, “Color inspiration for our wedding came from the fact that I have always loved color in general! Turquoise has always been my favorite and Jay and I share a love for turquoise stone, jewelry… Coral is just a great color! Most flowers shine the most in the orange, peach, coral palette. Also for the sake of my dear husband I started calling it Moab red to symbolize our shared love of the outdoors and more specifically Moab, Utah and surrounding areas. He liked the idea of the color once I put that spin on it ha!”

Jay really liked Mountain Dew! I love the glass bottles they had – such a classic!

Their wedding ceremony was at the river site, which is located right next to the lodge and next to the Saint Vrain river. It is a magical spot!

I asked Janel to tell me a little more about her and Jay’s love story… “Our love story is pretty simple and sweet but a wonderful portrayal on waiting on the Lords timing. I met Jay at work. People meet everyday but I was definitely drawn to him from the start. However I assumed this charming, good looking man with a southern accent was married with four children. Nothing happened at first but I felt led to pray for him because at the time he was a remote medic working in Liberia. Jay came back in later on after returning from another trip to Liberia and he let his intentions be known that he was interested in me. Thankfully unattached! The remarkable part of our story is this was the first time Jay and I were neither looking for a relationship. After having a couple health scares I was finally content with by singleness and working on getting healthy. Jay was giving up and thought he would never find someone. He was wrestling with being content. We met 4 1/2 years ago and it has been an amazing courtship. Now I am married to my best friend, and the one I feel was always “waiting in the wings” like my mom always said!”

Their love for one another and tremendous joy was evident the entire day!!

Janel did all of the flowers and decor herself (with some help from family)! When I asked her where she got the ideas and motivation to DIY, she said – “Flower inspiration came from my love of flowers and gardening that stems from my grandma Lorraine whom I just lost in November. Inspiration for my flowers also came from my dads attention to his yard, gardening skills, and the amazing rose bush they have in the backyard. I always thought I would have a Fall wedding and grow my own zinnias. They make the most beautiful symmetrical bouquets, with stunning color! I tried to mimic that look but I wanted different textures and sizes of the flowers, as well as different varieties. Weddings are expensive as everyone knows. My mom instilled in me my love for arts and crafts, DIY, and thrift. When it came to the decorations I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing them but me! With some “slight” Pinterest inspiration I had a ball! Putting together the centerpieces was a great time to spend with my mom, and my now sister in law Lee Anne. They were a huge help and I would have never been able to get them all done in a day without them. Not to mention three bouquets and 20 boutonnieres! My mom was a huge help with all the candle holders as  well. I never thought mod podge and lace could be so messy!” I think it all turned out wonderfully! I LOVE the jars and the color combination!
