Saint Andrews Scotland – Adventures driving to Edinburgh

Saint Andrews Scotland – Romanced by Scottish charm

The drive from Inverness to Edinburgh was simply amazing. The green rolling hills that are covered with flocks of fluffy white sheep and their baby lambs are truly magical. It’s quite literally like a scene out of Braveheart!

We made a short stop in Dunkeld to stretch our legs and wander a bit. I love rivers and bridges!!! The sound of rushing water is enchanting and the beautiful lush rows a trees that flourish along its sides are beautiful.

Traveling through European countries over the last three years has been an incredible experience. I feel utterly blessed to have been able to see so much in such a small amount of time. One of my favorite things about my European travels has been all of the architecture – It is unlike anything I had ever seen and romanced me right away. The time that was put into each structure and the unique detail blows my mind. While walking around Dunkeld I was charmed by a church that we found that stood close to the rivers edge with a small park in front of it… Could you imagine having picnics here??
I must say, I was mesmerized by all the pink blossoming trees that seemed to be everywhere! They are my favorite and sadly are gone in the blink of an eye. They had already fallen off the trees at home in Colorado… So I was overjoyed to see so many of them!

On our way to Edinburgh we planned to stop in Saint Andrews. A lovely town that sits on the eastern coast of Scotland. We wanted to visit the ruins of the cathedral and castle, but got to the town too late to see them as they closed at 5pm. However, the surrounding walls were low enough to where we could see them from a far and they were very impressive! I am always amazed that such structures are still standing after so many years… Wandering beautiful ruins such as these is like stepping back into history. We don’t seem to build things this anymore. I often wonder what people will come to explore in terms of our architecture and what (if any) will still be standing hundreds of years from now. When we visited Turkey last year we walked through a church from the 3rd century and it was still standing!
Anyways… Saint Andrews was a beautiful town full of stone buildings. It has a lovely university and feels very much like a college town, which as four young adults traveling together – we loved it!

One of my favorite and sometimes unnoticed charming parts of older cities are doorways… I often wonder what it looks like on the other side and how many different people throughout history have walked through these lovely doors.
