Where Molly and Chris’s story started…

In the summer of 2013 Molly, a Colorado girl with Wyoming roots, decided to take her first physical therapist position at Elkhorn Valley Rehab Hospital in Casper, Wy. In celebrating her first week on the job, Molly and new co-worker Erika decided to head out to the Keg & Cork Pub for a Friday evening of fun. Chris, a Wyoming native, had just finished his shift at Mountain View Regional Hospital and arrived at Keg & Cork to meet up with his long-time Casper buddies. Erika recognized a few of the guys, including Chris, from cross country skiing in high school and the pair were invited to sit down on the patio with the boys. Almost immediately Molly asked Erika about “the good looking guy in the scrubs.” Chris was impressed by Molly’s choice in IPAs and Molly was excited about Chris’ shared goal of a healthcare career. As the evening progressed the two continued to talk and learned about their common backgrounds studying abroad in Spanish speaking countries and shared passions for biking. Unfortunately, Chris preferred his bike to stay on the mountain and Molly loved the open road. So a pact was made… Molly would buy a mountain bike and Chris would get a road bike and they would start riding together. Within two months Molly and Chris were inseparable. By the next summer Molly had a mountain bike and Chris had found a road bike. Ever since, they have been snowboarding, biking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, camping, backpacking, fly fishing and enjoying the Wyoming and Montana wilderness together.

How forever began…

Chris’ dream of becoming a physician assistant was finally coming true. He was accepted into a Master’s program through Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT starting summer 2015. In August, Chris had a break from school and was desperate for an adventure. He suggested a backpacking trip in the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area of the Bighorn Mountains near Buffalo, WY. Chris planned the trip to Misty Moon Lake where they would set up camp and then day hike to the top of Cloud Peak (the tallest peak in the Bighorns). Little did Molly know, Chris had a surprise planned for their summit. After several mishaps including hiking the eight mile route to Misty Moon in the dark and waking up to snow at 10,000 feet on the morning of the summit, Chris insisted that the hike would go on. Five hours later, after boulder hopping and scrambling to 13,000 feet, Molly turned to take a picture of the spectacular view. When she turned back around, Chris was on his knee asking her to marry him. The Bighorns have always been a special place for both Molly and Chris’ families, but now they have even more reason to love this beautiful range.

I asked Molly if she enjoyed wedding planning…

I enjoyed it, but sometimes it was hard planning from out of state. Luckily, my mom was very helpful in that area. We were engaged for 2 years so luckily we got to spread the stress of planning out over time so that made it a little easier.

I knew instantly that Wild Basin was the place. We love the mountains for so many reasons (backpacking, snowboarding, biking, fishing) so we wanted to be surrounded by nature because that is where we bonded the most and learned the most about each other
