I was super excited when Cathy contacted me about photography for her estes park wedding! Her and her fiance, Peter met in Korea and were living there at the time. He is in the military and she was teaching English in a middle school.

They were the sweetest couple and full of so much joy! I loved their first look… They both had the most excited expressions when they saw each each other for the first time on their wedding day.

I asked Cathy some questions about their wedding day and love story…

How did you and Peter get engaged?

We got engaged at Yeouido Park, which is a park on Yeoui Island on the Han River in Seoul. It’s where we had our third date—a fireworks festival—and our first kiss! We had been shopping earlier in the day, but we finished pretty quickly, so I was ready to go home, but Peter didn’t want to go back, so I knew something was up. We went to Yeouido, and after walking around for a bit we found a bench and sat down, and he got down on one knee and proposed!

What was the wedding dress buying experience like for you?

The dress I bought at Bridal Elegance in Colorado Springs, and it was surprisingly a short process. I had heard it could take at least five or six months (or more!) to get a dress, so I was worried I wouldn’t have time to find one. I wasn’t getting back to the U.S. until August 8, and the wedding was set for October 3, but Aileen, one of my bridesmaids, made an appointment with Bridal Elegance for the very next day after I flew back, August 9. Jet lagged and stressed from wedding planning, I tried on a number of dresses and found one that day! It took two weeks for the dress to come in after ordering it, and we started alterations right away, and it was steamed, pressed, and ready for pickup just two days before I went back to Estes for the rehearsal dinner and wedding.

Who did your hair and make up?

I had my hair and makeup done at Riverspointe Spa in Estes! It’s funny because I hardly wear any makeup, but I wanted makeup to look nice for the pictures. When Peter saw me after the trial run, he was shocked (he tried so hard to hide it and be nice about it, saying he fell in love with me without makeup) and asked we go a little easy on the makeup for the actual wedding; I think Megan at Riverspointe did a great job striking that balance.

Cathy added…

Something I think is crazy (but special) is that Peter and I are both from Colorado (well, I tease him and say he’s not actually from Colorado since he grew up in Pennsylvania)—Peter from Estes Park and me from Colorado Springs—but we met 6,000 miles away from Colorado in Korea.
