Edinburgh Scotland

Edinburgh-ScotlandEdinburgh Scotland – Enchanting city in Scotland

We spent 3 nights in Edinburgh and it wasn’t nearly enough…

We had planned to drive to our hostel and figure out parking once we got there. However, when we drove around the area where our hostel was located we realized that parking was going to difficult. We stopped outside and Ryan ran into our hostel to ask about parking in the area…. When he asked the receptionist she laughed at his question! Apparently there is zero places to park in the area. We had found this hostel in an awesome location that was super close to all of the Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile… But the downside was that we were in the busy district of the city with no parking. We found a parking garage not very far away BUT it cost £19 per day! That’s pretty much a hotel for the car! We decided that was ridiculous, so resourceful Ernest found a free place that we could park the car right outside the city and take a bus back in, What a relief! Once that was settled we headed to bed in order to start over the next day and explore Edinburgh!!

The next morning we slept in! I love that! However, once we got up and running we went to this awesome little place called Deli Fresco. The people working there were super nice and welcoming. They had delicious sandwiches… If you are ever in the area, you should check them out!
Once we fueled up we headed to the Edinburgh Castle which is at the top of the Royal Mile (a mile long street that while wandering looks like you stepped back in time!) The castle is beautiful and sits high up on the hill. There is something so enchanting about visiting old places like this, especially castles and wondering what life might have been like when it was first built or what the people were like who roamed the same streets that we now stand on. It’s quite mind blowing!

We wandered down some of the royal mile and went inside Saint Giles Cathedral, which is right on the side of the street,,, This gorgeous and massive cathedral makes you feel very small! The inside of the cathedral is breathtaking! I am constantly fascinated and intrigued by the incredible architecture that is all over Europe! One of my favorite things are the church was the massive columns that are inside. The high ceilings create a vast feeling that you truly are just one tiny part of the world.

Afterwards we went to this awesome coffee shop / cafe – The Elephant House. It was one of the places Julia and Ernest wanted to check out for their research of coffee shops. It was so lovely! This specific place was where J,K. Rowling wrote some of the Harry Potter books! If anyone knows me, they know that I LOVE me some Harry Potter!! The bathrooms at this place were littered with Harry Potter graffiti from fans from all over the world! It was pretty awesome. My coffee and pastry was delicious as well!

To end the evening we headed to Calton Hill which has a gorgeous view of Edinburgh! It was beautiful and a perfect place to spend the sunset! I am so excited we found this place!!

Our remaining time in the city we walked the streets… It was like stepping back into medieval times.
